Busy year
It was in my 2nd year in the pack as a den leader and I had the opportunity of going back to school. The workload was increased and suddenly my time to prepare the den meetings was very limited.
At the same time, my Assistant Den Leader was overwhelmed at work, so we were not sure about how to prepare the den meetings. We discussed the situation with the den families and proposed to assign one adventure to each family: while the two trained leaders were there to conduct the opening and closing parts of each den meeting and making sure the environment was safe and according to the BSA standards, the families were in charge of the gathering activity and the adventure requirements.
The den families understood the situation and in a very supportive response they welcomed the idea, and the whole year was very dynamic and a engaging; so much that the following year we had the same approach. As a result, everyone in the den was very engaged, and the meetings became more enjoyable.
